Creating the Informational Article

This is a fairly basic article. Just as the name implies, it lays out the “who, what, where, when, why and how” of your topic. In most cases, the informational article is a good format when you want to introduce beginners to a particular topic.

If you want an example of an informational article, just visit Wikipedia or any encyclopedia-type website. Nearly every entry on these sites is comprised of basic informational articles. Here are the characteristics:

They’re fact-based. If you can’t back up a statement with a fact, then it doesn’t belong in an informational article. The only time you should include an opinion in an informational article is if you clearly state that it’s an opinion.
They don’t teach a “how to” process. These types of articles teach the reader about the topic, but usually these articles don’t include instructions.
